Healthy Homemade Granola Clusters without adding any refined sugar. Easy to make and perfect to serve with yoghurt, smoothie bowls and fruit.

Granola clusters are one of my favourite things to have for breakfast, serve on smoothies, smoothie bowls, yoghurt, and even to snack on its own.
Many store-bought granola is full of sugar and other additives and can also be quite expensive. This encouraged me to start making my own homemade granola and ever since I have never turned back!

Ingredients to Make Healthy Granola Clusters
- Rolled oats are the key ingredient and base to this granola, make sure to not use quick oats as it will burn
- Mixed raw nuts, I've used almonds and cashews. You can also add walnuts, pecans or any nuts you like.
- Seeds, I've used pepita, sunflower and flax
- Rice malt syrup for natural sweetness. This can also be substituted with agave, maple syrup or honey.
- Coconut oil is my preferred oil for baking but you can use avocado oil or any oil of your choice
The foundation of granola consists of rolled oats, nuts and seeds. It's always best to use a variety of nuts and seeds, so feel free to add any other variations to what I have used in my recipe, there are no rules.
How to Make Healthy Granola Clusters
First thing is to preheat your oven and get started on mixing all the dry ingredients in a large bowl.
Add wet ingredients to the same bowl and mix together. Next, pour the mixture onto a lined baking tray and with the back of a spoon start flattening to an even level and push down so it sticks together.
Place in the oven for 15 minutes, remove and stir the mixture around then flatten for a second time before putting back in the oven for 10 minutes.
Now for the hard part, try to resist and let it cool for 5-10 minutes before breaking apart the clusters and digging in.
Important Tips
- Always ensure you have spread the mixture out on an even level on your baking tray. This will ensure the granola cooks evenly. Also, mix the granola throughout the cook so the edges don't burn and it cooks up the same all the way through.
- To make the clusters, make sure to press the mixture down with the back of a spoon so there are no gaps and so it sticks together.
- Its always best to let your granola cool for at least 5-10 minutes once its been removed from the oven. This creates the crispness before its stored away or eaten for that matter.
- You will notice the mixture will be stuck together in one big piece, so once cooled, break up with your fingers to desired size pieces for your clusters. If you prefer it finer, you can use the back of a spoon to tap and break it up further.
- For storing place in an airtight container and it can last for months.
One of my favourite ways to serve granola is on top of my Strawberry Parfait, yoghurt along with a side of fresh fruit and berries. It brings a beautiful crunch to the dish which keeps you wanting more after each mouthful 🙂

Absolutely delicious! Mine did not stick together, but that didn't matter to me. I will be using it with plant based yogurt and fruit. I would definitely recommend it to anyone and will probably give jars of it as gifts. Thank you so much.

Hi Susan, so happy you love this recipe! To make them stick together, make sure to press the mixture down with the back of a spoon so there are no gaps when baking. Then allow it to cool before breaking apart 🙂
