Air fryer salmon bites served with rice and cucumbers

These Air Fryer Salmon Bites taste like little bites of heaven! They’re golden, tender and literally melt in your mouth. Salmon has always been my favorite fish to eat, and this is one of my go-to recipes to make. It’s made with a simple marinade which becomes caramelized in the air fryer, with delicious crispy bits that are my fave part.

These days I don't eat seafood very often, I usually eat a mostly vegetarian and plant-based diet. I do still try and incorporate fish occasionally, and when I do, I love making these air fryer salmon bites. It’s bursting with flavor from the savory and sweet soy marinade, and doesn't taste fishy at all 😊. I like to serve it with jasmine or basmati rice and making an easy salmon bowl, which is like a poke bowl without the raw fish or sometimes I add it to my edamame salad.

What's great is you only need less than 15 minutes to make this air fryer salmon recipe, which is perfect for busy weeknights. It's healthy, nutritious and packed with protein, healthy fats and omega-3’s. It's super versatile as you can enjoy it in many ways. Some personal favorites are with quinoa or rice, vegetables, and even great with salads or noodles. You can also serve them as a fun appetizer, with a drizzle of sriracha aioli or a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. Their really aren't any rules!

    Ingredients and Substitutions

    • Salmon is of course the star of the dish, providing lean protein and healthy omega-3 fatty acids. You can either buy skinless salmon fillets or remove the skin yourself when slicing into salmon chunks

    Marinade

    • Soy sauce adds umami flavor and saltiness without the need of adding any extra salt. I always prefer to use low sodium soy sauce with reduced salt. You can substitute with tamari or coconut aminos for a gluten-free option if needed
    • Honey provides sweetness and helps with the caramelization. You can also  substitute with maple syrup or brown sugar
    • Garlic and ginger are grated into the marinade to add a delicious aroma and flavor
    • Sesame oil infuses the marinade with a delicious nutty flavor
    • Rice vinegar brings acidity and brightens the flavors

How to make Air Fryer Salmon Bites

These salmon bites take little time to make thanks to the air fryer, providing an easy quick dinner. Follow my simple steps below.

    Raw salmon cut into cubes

Remove the skin and any bones from the salmon then slice into 1 inch / 2.5 cms cubes

Marinade made in a glass container

In a container add the marinade ingredients (soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, grated garlic and ginger). Whisk to combine

    Salmon added to marinade

Add the salmon and stir to coat all pieces. Leave to marinate in the fridge for minimum 10 minutes. If you have time, leave for a few hours

Salmon pieces placed in air fryer basket

Preheat air fryer to 390℉ / 200℃ and spray the basket with olive oil. Place salmon in a single layer, with space in between them (as pictured)

Marinade being brushed on salmon half way of cook time

Cook for 5-8 minutes (depends how you like it cooked), flipping them halfway and brushing over the leftover marinade

Cooked salmon in air fryer basket

To serve, garnish with sesame seeds, a drizzle of sriracha mayo with a side of rice and veggies or make a salmon bowl. Enjoy!

What to serve with Air Fryer Salmon Bites

    • Brown or jasmine or basmati rice
    • Quinoa or other grains
    • Salmon tacos
    • Lemon orzo
    • Creamy orzo pasta
    • Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes
    • Roasted vegetables and cauliflower steaks
    • Orzo pasta salad
    • Greek lemon potatoes
    • Salads, such as edamame salad or chopped Asian salad
    • Salmon bowl or poke bowl
    • Steamed greens such as broccoli and asparagus

    Tips and Tricks

    1. Don't slice the salmon too small as you don't want them to fall apart. I find 1 inch / 2.5 cm cubes are the perfect size
    2. Marinate for as long as you can for extra flavor. You can prepare in advance and allow it to marinate for a few hours in the fridge
    3. Don't overcrowd the air fryer basket and cook in batches if needed. This way, you achieve even cooking with delicious caramelization on the outside
    4. Adjust cooking time depending on how you like your salmon. If you prefer it cooked medium rare, cook for the lower time noted in the recipe
    5. No air fryer, no worries. You can keep the recipe as is and pan fry for a few minutes on each side or bake in the oven (however it will have a longer cook time)

    Storage Instructions

    • Store leftover salmon bites in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days
    • You can freeze salmon bites in an airtight container for up to 2 months. Once thawed, reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes until warmed through
    • You can also leave uncooked leftovers to marinate in the fridge for two days

    FAQs

What type of salmon is best?

Atlantic salmon filets are the most popular choice and readily available, but you can really use any type you prefer

Do I have to flip salmon in the air fryer?

Yes, its best to flip the salmon bites so they cook evenly and have a delicious char on all sides

How do you keep salmon from sticking to the air fryer?

Ensure to spray the air fryer basket with oil or you can also use parchment paper or foil if you prefer

Can I bake the salmon bites instead of air frying?

Yes of course! Bake at 400℉ / 200℃ for about 8-12 minutes

Hi Ayeh. I made this tonight following directions to set air fryer at 190f/200c. After 4 minutes I saw it hadn't cooked. I then went online and found to cook salmon it should be around 350. I reset the fryer and cooked it for 8 minutes turning once and basting it as instructed and it came out perfectly! I loved it.
