This Honey Garlic Salmon is glazed with the most delicious sauce and is ready in less than 15 minutes...it's sure to impress everyone! Here I've served it with jasmine rice and a fresh avocado salad for the perfect easy dinner.

When it comes to seafood and fish dishes, salmon has to be my absolute favorite fish. I'm always trying different flavors to spruce it up, so here I've glazed it with a sticky delicious sauce and made Honey Garlic Salmon. It's ready in less than 15 minutes and will be one of your new go-to salmon recipes because it certainly is already one of mine! The sauce is sticky, savory and sweet "without" being too sweet and is simple enough for a quick weeknight dinner, or even can be shared with guests...everyone will love it!
If you've seen my recent post, I shared my new pregnancy announcement yay! Luckily salmon is still up there in my cravings, but I have to admit, I need it to taste less “fishy”, if you know what I mean. This honey glazed salmon recipe definitely ticks the box as the sauce is so flavorful and becomes the star of the dish. Similar to my sushi bake and even my salmon bowl where the marinade and other elements make the salmon shine!

Ingredients and Substitutions
- Salmon fillets are of course the star today. If possible use fresh salmon however frozen is fine too. If using frozen ensure to thaw and pat them dry with a paper towel before using
- Extra virgin olive oil is used to pan fry the salmon, you can use butter if you prefer
- Honey is one of the core ingredients for the sweet glaze. Maple syrup or agave are good substitutes, but I haven't tested these myself
- Soy sauce adds the savory salty umami flavor. I always opt for low-sodium soy sauce. You can also use tamari for a gluten-free option
- Garlic of course! Now since it's another key ingredient, I only recommend fresh garlic or jarred minced garlic. Garlic powder won't taste as good
- White vinegar is added for some acidity and to balance the sweetness. Swap with fresh lemon juice
- Water is added to loosen the sauce and to prevent it from burning and become into a glossy honey glaze
- Garnish ideas - chopped green onions, sesame seeds or chopped herbs such as parsley or cilantro will all work beautifully. If you like spice, add a dash of sriracha or red pepper flakes
How to make Honey Garlic Salmon
This recipe is the definition of quick and easy, coming together in 15 minutes for a delicious dinner that everyone will love. Here's how to make it:

Step 1: Add sauce ingredients to a small bowl - being honey, soy sauce, vinegar, chopped garlic and water. Whisk to combine

Step 2: Season salmon fillets and heat a large pan over medium heat with olive oil. Then add the fillets skin side down and gently press them down with tongs or a spatula to prevent them curling up

Step 3: When the salmon is cooked halfway up on the sides (~ 4-5 mins), gently flip them over and cook the other side for 2 minutes

Step 4: Flip the fillets over (skin side down), reduce the heat to low and pour over the sauce - be careful as it will be bubbling and may spit out. Then keep basting the salmon for ~ 2 minutes

Step 5: Remove the salmon fillets from the pan and cook down the sauce for 2-4 minutes until its thickened up slightly, then add to a small bowl

Step 6: To serve, add an extra drizzle of the sauce with your favorite sides and enjoy!
Tips and Tricks
- For the best salmon sear, ensure you have a hot pan and don't touch them once they have been placed down
- Only flip the salmon fillets when you can see the sides have changed color approximately half way up the fillets
- Be cautious when pouring the honey sauce in the pan. It will be sizzling and bubbling and can spit out, so ensure the heat has been reduced to low beforehand
- Keep basting the salmon in the honey glaze for the best flavor
- Don't cook the sauce down too much as it can thicken quickly due to the sugar in the honey. You want it to reduce down to a glossy sauce but still be runny enough to drizzle
Storage Instructions
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days
- Reheat in a pan with a small dash of water until heated through, or you can use a microwave. You can also enjoy the salmon leftovers cold and make a salmon salad
- Freeze the cooked salmon for 1-2 months, then thaw and reheat as per above. I do prefer cooking it fresh though for the best flavor

Serving Suggestions
I've paired this Honey Garlic Salmon with jasmine rice and a fresh avocado salad. You could switch up the grain to farro or quinoa with a light arugula salad as well. Alternatively you could add crispy potatoes or creamy mashed potatoes with simple green vegetables such as asparagus, steamed or smashed broccoli. All will be delicious!
FAQs
It's best to add the honey sauce at the final minutes of cooking and baste the salmon with it so the sauce doesn't overcook or burn
Yes you sure can! You can place the salmon in a baking dish and baste with the sauce throughout the cook

Recipe

Honey Garlic Salmon (Easy Dinner in 15 Minutes)
Video
Ingredients
- 2 salmon fillets (~ 6oz / 170g each)
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
Honey Garlic Sauce
- 2 large garlic cloves - finely chopped
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce - I prefer low-sodium
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- 1 tablespoon water
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, add the sauce ingredients which are the honey, soy sauce, vinegar, chopped garlic, water and red pepper flakes (if using). Whisk to combine
- Season the salmon fillets with a pinch of salt and black pepper. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil. Once heated, place salmon fillets skin side down and gently press them down with your tongs or spatula so they don't curl up
- Once you see the salmon is cooked halfway up on the sides (~ 4-5 minutes), gently flip them over with a spatula and cook the other side for 2 minutes
- Gently flip the fillets over again, skin side down, reduce the heat to low and pour over the honey garlic sauce - be careful as the sauce can spit out a little and will be bubbling
- Keep basting the salmon with the sauce for about 2 minutes then remove the salmon fillets from the skillet onto a plate
- Cook down the sauce for 2-4 minutes until its reduced and thickened up slightly, then remove the sauce to a small bowl or ramekin
- Garnish your delicious Honey Garlic Salmon with a drizzle of the remaining sauce alongside your favorite sides, here I've made jasmine rice and an avocado salad and enjoy!
Notes
- Salmon - for the best sear on the salmon, ensure you have a hot pan and don't touch them once they've been placed down, only flipping once you can see the sides have changed color (about half way up the fillets)
- Honey garlic sauce - be careful when pouring the sauce in the pan. It will be sizzling and bubbling and can spit out, so reduce the heat to low beforehand. Then with a spoon keep basting the salmon in the sauce for the best flavor
- Sauce consistency - watch it closely as it can thicken quickly if overcooked, due to the sugar in the honey. It should be reduced down to a glossy sauce thats runny enough to drizzle
