    Tiramisu Truffles

    JUMP TO RECIPE

These Tiramisu Truffles taste just like the classic tiramisu but made into irresistible bite-sized treats! They have a soft creamy texture and are crazy easy to make in 15 minutes.

Calling all my fellow tiramisu lovers, here's a new fun way to make everyone's favorite dessert! As you guys know, I'm not a huge cake fan in general, but I absolutely love tiramisu, and love making new ways to enjoy it like my limoncello tiramisu and overnight oats. These tiramisu truffles have quickly become a favorite treat in my home. They're a simple no bake dessert and crazy easy to make. You'll need only
    15 minutes and 5 ingredients!

I've been currently spending time in Italy and have eaten my fair share of tiramisu…and not complaining about that 😊. Every household, restaurant and pasticceria make it slightly different, but they all have the same concept. Creamy mascarpone, savoiardi biscuits (aka lady fingers), coffee and a little sugar. Here these little balls of heaven are made the same way, just in a different shape.

The savoiardi biscuits are blitzed into a powdery consistency, mixed into the cream mixture, then rolled into balls and coated with cacao powder. No raw eggs or layering involved. You can even make them even more fancy by coating in melted chocolate. They're so cute and irresistible, perfect for a dinner parties, gatherings, date night, Valentine's day or even a personal treat. Trust me everyone will love them! There's only one problem….one is never enough 😉

Unlike the classic tiramisu recipe which needs to set in the fridge overnight, these no bake tiramisu truffles don't need long at all. They take 15 minutes to put together and need 1 hour to set in the fridge so they're great for a last minute dessert. I had my Italian friends over the other night for a last minute catch up and put these together to enjoy with our prosecco and they went down so well! They loved the idea!

Some more simple no bake desserts are my tiramisu cups, chocolate avocado mousse and cannoli dip.

Truffles on a plate served with strawberries

    What makes this recipe special

    • Quick & Easy: Minimal steps and simple ingredients made in 15 minutes
    • Crazy Delish!: Soft truffle balls with all the flavor of the classic Italian dessert
    • No Bake: Just mix, roll, and chill!
    • Customizable: Add coffee liqueur such as kahlua or rum, or coat them in melted dark or white chocolate for more decadence
    Ingredients used to make truffles

    Ingredients and Substitutions

    • Mascarpone cheese is the Italian version of cream cheese however with a much milder flavor. Its rich and creamy and gives the truffles their soft texture. You can swap it for cream cheese if needed, but the taste will be different
    • Savoiardi biscuits known as ladyfingers are the traditional Italian biscuits used in classic tiramisu. They soak in the mixture and provide the dough-like base
    • Espresso coffee is a key ingredient for that signature tiramisu flavor. If you prefer a lighter taste, mix in a bit of espresso with milk. To make them kid friendly or coffee free, you can try chocolate milk or cooled hot chocolate instead
    • Powdered sugar adds just the right amount of sweetness without making the batter too dense and also dissolves much quicker. You can use regular sugar instead, I would suggest to start with less and taste as you go
    • Cacao powder is basically raw cocoa powder without the sugar, and used for dusting the truffle balls for that classic tiramisu finish. You can also use unsweetened cocoa powder or melted chocolate

    How to make Tiramisu Truffles

These truffles taste exactly like the classic tiramisu, made in 15 minutes for an easy dessert to impress. Follow my simple steps below (note quantities are listed in the recipe card below)

    Espresso coffee in cup

Brew an espresso and allow it to cool

    Savoiardi biscuits blended

Blitz the savoiardi biscuits to a powder consistency

Wet batter made with cream, coffee and sugar

In a bowl add the mascarpone cheese, sugar and cooled espresso. Mix to combine

Savoiardi biscuits added to wet mixture

Add the blended biscuits and combine with a rubber spatula

    Truffle dough mixed in bowl

The batter consistency will be thick, just like cookie dough

Spoon used to make small truffles

Spoon a teaspoon of the mixture to your fingers and roll into a ball. Repeat to make 10 balls

Truffles rolled into small balls and placed in the fridge to set

Put in the fridge to set for 1 hour

Truffle balls coated in cacao powder

Drop balls one at a time in a bowl of cacao powder to coat them. Its ready to serve, enjoy!

    Tips and Tricks

    1. Allow the mascarpone cheese to come to room temperature for easy mixing
    2. Ensure the coffee has been cooled before adding to the cream mixture. You can pop in the freezer or refrigerator to speed the time
    3. If the mixture feels too soft to roll, chill it in the refrigerator for 15 minutes before shaping
    4. For a deeper flavor, mix in a splash of coffee liqueur like kahlua or marsala wine
    5. Add the coating of cacao powder right before serving otherwise it will slowly be absorbed and have a spotty finish
    6. Use a small cookie scoop to make evenly sized truffles

    Storage Instructions

    • Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days
    • They also freeze well for up to a month. Place on a tray or plate with parchment paper and freeze for a few hours, then place in an airtight freezer bag. Thaw in the fridge before serving
    • Serve chilled to maintain the perfect texture

    FAQs

    How tiramisu is made?

Classic tiramisu is made by soaking savoiardi biscuits in coffee and layering in between a mascarpone cream mixture. These truffles taste just as good with minimal steps

What is the difference between cream cheese and mascarpone cheese?

Whilst they look very similar, mascarpone is a lot more rich and buttery making it perfect for desserts as it has a milder taste. Cream cheese has a more tangy taste

Can I make these truffles ahead of time?

Yes! These truffles can be made a day or two in advance and stored in the refrigerator. Dust them with cacao right before serving

Can I use instant coffee instead of espresso?

Yes of course, dissolve instant coffee in a small amount of hot water to create a strong coffee concentrate

    Ingredients

    • ⅓ cup mascarpone cheese - preferably at room temperature
    • 12 (3.5oz / 100g) savoiardi biscuits - ladyfingers
    • 3 tablespoons brewed espresso coffee
    • 3 teaspoons sifted powdered sugar
    • Cacao powder for dusting

    Instructions

    • Brew espresso coffee and allow it to cool
    • In the meantime, blitz the savoiardi biscuits in a blender or food processor to a powder consistency
    • In a bowl, add the mascarpone cheese and sugar. Add the cooled espresso and mix together to create the cream mixture
    • Add the crushed lady fingers to the bowl, and using a rubber spatula stir together until combined well. It will be a thick batter like consistency, similar to cookie dough
    • Spoon a teaspoon of the mixture to your fingers and roll into a ball. Place on a plate and continue with the remaining mixture - you should have 10 balls
    • Place the truffle balls in the fridge to set for 1 hour. They will have a soft texture on the inside, but if you prefer them to be firmer set for longer
    • Add the cacao powder to a small bowl and drop in the balls one at a time to coat them in the powder. Serve up your delicious Tiramisu Truffles and enjoy!

Loved this recipe! We cut the sugar in half and used a 50/50 coffee-Kahlua mixture. We also used gluten-free lady fingers and perhaps they are larger than regular savoiardi biscuits, because we had to triple the mascarpone cheese, sugar and coffee-Kahlua mixture - but it all worked out, and the truffles were delicious. We also decided to lessen the amount of cocoa that we put on the outside because we found it to be a bit too intense with the whole truffle coated in cocoa. (Might have been the type of cocoa we had causing this...). But for flavour and texture - 10/10. Thank you!

So happy you loved these Karen 🙂 I love the idea of the Kahlua! If the savoiardi biscuits are larger than usual, this will affect the amount of the cream mixture. 12 biscuits is about 3.5 oz/ 100 grams, I've just included this in the recipe for next time 🙂
