This Greek Yogurt Sauce is a staple I make all the time, it takes literally minutes to make and tastes great with everything! Think of it like a lazy tzatziki that can be used as a dip for pita chips, zucchini fritters, drizzled over wraps and many more!

I'm not kidding when I say I make this Greek yogurt Sauce at least once a week! It literally takes minutes to make and is creamy, fresh and tangy and can be paired with anything. When it comes to sauces and dips, I'm a big believer that homemade is better. Store-bought sauces can be packed with unnecessary sugars, oils and preservatives. So why buy it when you can make this healthy yogurt sauce in less than 5 minutes!
In terms of the taste, it has the classic Mediterranean and Greek flavors which you guys know are my absolute favorites. I call it a lazy tzatziki sauce, as it has the same base of Greek yogurt, herbs, lemon juice, garlic and olive oilโฆ.its just missing the grated cucumber throughout it. So many other cultures have a similar cucumber yogurt dip including Persian mast o khiar, Turkish cacik, Indian raiti and more.
The difference with this sauce, is that it has a thinner consistency than the classic dips. However, this can be controlled when you make it yourself, as I always recommend adding the water slowly until you have your desired texture depending on what you are serving it with. You can then dip, drizzle or pour it over dishes like fritters, chicken, salads, pita wraps and many more - check out my extensive serving suggestions below.

Recipe Highlights
- Quick & Easy: Minimal ingredients and comes together in just a few minutes
- Versatile: Serve as a dip, sauce, spread or salad dressing
- Refreshing: Lemon juice and herbs give it a bright and fresh flavor

Ingredients and Substitutions
- Plain Greek yogurt is the creamy base of the sauce making it healthy, nutritious packed with protein and calcium. I've used non-fat but full-fat Greek yogurt works great too
- Extra virgin olive oil adds smoothness and a subtle richness, you don't need too much
- Dried dill weed or dried mint adds a lovely aroma and herby flavor. Depending on what I'm serving the sauce with, I switch up the herbs. Fresh dill or fresh mint can of course be added too
- Lemon juice gives the sauce a little lift with its acidity and freshness, I always prefer fresh lemon juice
Garlic is an optional one...if choosing to add it, I recommend a small clove and using a microplane grater so you don't have chunks of garlic
How to make Greek Yogurt Sauce
This yogurt sauce is a quick and easy way to elevate any meal. Follow my simple steps below (note quantities are listed in the recipe card below)

Step 1: In a small bowl, add yogurt, olive oil, lemon juice, dried herbs, and a pinch of salt. If using garlic, grate it with a microplane

Step 2: Stir, then mix in 1 teaspoon cold water. Add more water, a teaspoon at a time, until you reach the desired consistency. Enjoy!
Tips and Tricks
- If adding garlic, make sure to use a microplane grater so you don't end up with lumps or chunks of raw garlic
- All yogurt brands contain different levels of moisture and liquid. So only add cold water 1 teaspoon at a time so you can control the desired consistency
- If serving as a dip with fritters or pita chips, keep a thicker consistency with minimal water, and if using to drizzle add extra water
- You can serve immediately or let the flavors develop together in the fridge. Note if stored in the fridge, the consistency will thicken
Storage Instructions
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days - if the yogurt was freshly opened
- The yogurt sauce will thicken up with refrigeration, so adjust the consistency when ready to serve by adding a small teaspoon of cold water at a time as needed
