These Greek Fries will take you to Greece with every bite! Seasoned with oregano, olive oil then topped with crumbled feta cheese...yum!

As a frequent traveller to Greece and the islands, I love love Greek food! Every time I've visited without a doubt, this is one dish I've ordered, time and time again. Who doesn't love fries, right? The combination of simply adding olive oil and dried oregano to potatoes and topping with feta will take your fries to the next level!

In Greek these are known as 'patates tiganites' translated as fried potatoes. Traditionally the potatoes are hand-cut a little thicker than normal fries and fried in olive oil for it's unique flavor. They're a popular side dish and made with only 4 ingredients.

In this recipe I recreate these beauties with a healthier twist by showing you how to cook them in the oven and the air fryer. They typically don't need a dipping sauce but they taste so good with a tzatziki sauce.

You can also pair these fries with tirokafteri (spicy feta dip), chopped Greek salad or a Greek wrap for a complete meal.

Why you'll love these Greek Fries

    • Flavor, flavor, flavor: The combination of salty feta, oregano and olive oil, takes these fries to another level
    • Healthier twist: Baking or cooking in the air fryer provides a better alternative than the traditional frying in oil
    • Customise as you like: Add seasoning such as garlic powder or spice up with a sprinkle of chili flakes at the end. The options and endless!

    Ingredients to make Greek Fries

    • Potatoes, I used white potatoes and prefer leaving the skin on however you can also peel them. You can substitute with russet potatoes or yukon gold potatoes if needed
    • Oregano adds the signature Greek flavor, known for its aroma.  Dried herbs is best than fresh herbs as it seasons the fries before cooking
    • Extra virgin olive oil forms part of seasoning the potatoes before cooking to add to the overall flavor and texture
    • Feta cheese is the star of the show! Crumble on top once the fries are

    Tips and Tricks

    1. Soaking the potatoes in cold water for 20 minutes helps remove excess starch, providing crispier fries
    2. Ensure to remove excess moisture on the potatoes. Pat them dry well with a paper towel before seasoning
    3. Don't over crowd the pan. Ensue to space out the fries in a single layer for the best results
    4. Add a squeeze of lemon juice for a touch of citrus to balance out the saltiness of the feta

    Storage Instructions

    • Store leftover fries in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer to your liking
