Rinse the rice a few times, then soak in a bowl of fresh water for 30-60 minutes (you can also soak for a few hours if you have the time)Then disregard the soaking water and rinse the rice a few times so its not murky anymore
Bring a large pot of water to a boil (about 8-10 cups of water) - I like to use my kettle to save time. Ensure there is enough water for the rice to cook evenly, similar to cooking pastaAdd the salt and the rice and give it a stir so the grains are separated
Once the water comes back to a light boil, reduce to medium-high heat and allow the rice to simmer at a steady boil without the lid, give it a stir every now and then
Taste the rice to ensure it's cooked through and not crunchy, the grains will still have a light bite to them. It should take approximately 35-40 minutes depending on the brand of rice
Once cooked, drain through a colander and return the rice back to the same pot. Place the lid on and steam the rice for 5-10 minutes (off the heat)
Remove the lid and fluff the grains with a fork. Then enjoy your perfectly cooked Brown Rice with your favorite curry, stir fry or make a protein buddha bowl
⭐️Final Step! Would love if you left a rating and comment to let me know how it went. Your feedback helps inspire others and means alot ❤️
Notes
Soaking - soak the brown rice for at least 30 minutes before cooking to soften the grains and help reduce the cooking time
Rinsing - rinse the rice thoroughly before cooking removes excess starch and prevents sticky grains. Don't skip this step!
Use plenty of water - cook the rice in 8–10 cups of boiling water, similar to pasta, so the grains have enough room to cook evenly
Steaming - after draining, let the rice steam with the lid on for 5–10 minutes, then fluff with a fork for the best texture
